Understanding Autosurf - The Basics

This is a quick guide to autosurf programs, nothing more and nothing less.

Even if you have been online for a couple of years, autosurf programs may be new to you. They are a means of online marketing along with banner exchanges, traffic brokering etc. and supply a way to drive visitors to your website. The major difference between the common ways of traffic generation is that you, as the webmaster, participate actively and basically "share" your power with other webmasters instead of spending money on marketing your site. You don't buy, you don't sell - You trade with other webmasters who participate in the autosurf program.
Such a program can be seen as a big circle of webmasters who view other websites in order to see hits on their own sites. The motto is always "give and take".

Autosurf stands for automatic surfing and means that new websites load (even in the background) without the need to watch the process or click links on websites. For each website that is shown to you, you earn credits which, in turn, can be used to show your website to potential customers. A system like this of course requires some sort of software in the background.

Most autosurf programs run directly off the company web server and do not require you to install any third party software. A web browser is all it takes to participate in the program. As a Microsoft Windows user you automatically have a web browser installed, the Microsoft Internet Explorer, but there are alternatives on the market which are suited better for autosurfing such as Mozilla Firefox. This browser is a very good choice if you are new to autosurf programs. It comes with an integrated popup-blocker and is in general more resistent towards malicious code that could interrupt your online session. Furthermore it also supports tabbed browsing to increase speed and efficiency in surfing for credits because you can load several autosurf programs into a single Firefox instance.

Once you joined an autosurf program, you can add the website you want to advertise to the system. From now on your site is available through the autosurf program and can be viewed up to thousands of times per day! These are real pageviews and not banner impressions that probably lead to a click. Your whole website is shown to all members of the autosurf program from now on including everything that is part of the site: all text, all links and all ads. Yes, you read that right: You can make money from autosurf programs!

At the end of the day, Autosurf sites are very similar to the common webmaster exchange programs like banner exchanges, pop-up exchanges and ordinary link exchanges. However, the main advantage over these types of webmaster programs is efficiency:
By joining an autosurf exchange, you can...

...trade live visitors
...send visitors directly to a product information or sales page to maximize profit
...make money by banner clicks and sales
...promote any type of legal website
...easily add and remove sites anytime through simple web administration interfaces
...promote websites for free!

so far, so good. the next article will explain some more advanced autosurf settings and shed some light into major misconcepts of autosurfing.
