How many programs is too much?

I have been asked this question on ICQ lately: How many programs do I have to join? Is there a point from where on more autosurf rotations do not equal more traffic?

My answer is NO.
The more autosurf programs you join, the better. More programs always mean more visitors! On top of that, you get more IP diversity (unique visitors) because lots of webmasters are bound to a specific rotation so you will want to join every quality autosurf program you can find out there!
Keep an eye on return traffic from every program and stop using the ones which do not return reasonable visitors to your site(s).

The only limit you have is a physical one: Your connection speed!
At a certain point your connection can not handle the amount of autosurf windows and the rotations will be slowed down or even time out on you.
Personally, I use multiple internet connections in my office and at home. I use this rule of thumb to determine the maximum number of autosurf windows:
- 56k modem: 2 rotations
- ISDN: 4 rotations
- from there on 5 rotations per additional MBit/second downstream.
Your individual choice should depend on surfing and downloading habits. Always keep an eye on your rotation tabs and stop them from timing out on you!

I am using cable at home and surf up to 25 programs at the same time, resulting in ~70,000 visits to my sites per day.
